Frequently Asked Questions

Our products are made using either leaves from Areca plant or from Sugarcane pulp. Both of these materials are residues from farming and are carbon negative.
The name Areca is derived from a name used locally on the Malabar Coast of India. Areca plant or tree belongs to species family of Arecaceae and grown in tropical countries. The Arecaceae are a botanical family of perennial flowering plants known as palms. The leaves used in our products are from the areca nut palm. Courtesy: Wikipedia
Word 'palm' is more often than not associated with the palm vegetable oil industry which was one of the main contributor to deforestation around the world. So, how are Natpro's products friend to ecology? Answer is, even though the leaves we use belong to palm species, it has no relation whatsoever to the palm oil industry. Palm nut trees (also known as Areca nut tree) have been grown by small to medium scale farmers for more than a century. There is no instance of the palm nut trees being grown in an industrial scale. This is sheerly due to the lack of technology to maintain and grow the palm nuts at an industrial scale. The supply and demand means, the palm nut cultivation is a niche business, hence manufacturing and use of these beautiful products will not lead to deforestation.
Our products are made from farming residues such as palm nut leaves or sugarcane fibre. Both of our raw materials are naturally produced by the plants by absorbing the carbon dioxide from the atmosphere. So our raw materials are in fact carbon negative!! Which makes Natpro's products the best ever possible alternatives to plastic or even paper based tablewares.
Our raw materials are handpicked from the farm. Once picked the leaves will be subjected to thorough pressurised washing. Which of course consumes electricity and water. However, the used water will be re-used to water the areca nut plants thereby eliminating the wastage of water. Our factory uses the hydro electricity which is a relatively cleaner form of energy. Once washed, these leaves are subjected to thermal compression by using the hydro electricity. Because our raw materials are carbon negative, our whole manufacturing process is as environment friendly and sustainable as it can get. Compared to plastic/paper based tablewares, our products consume a fraction of non renewable resources during manufacturing.
Disposing these products are very easy and costs very less compared to getting rid off plastics.
  • Just put them in your compost bin at your garden.
  • If that is not possible, make sure to rinse off any food and then discard in your garden waste bin which will be turned into compost at a council facility. Please check the rules set by your local council.
  • Alternatively, just discard them in the refuse which will be landfilled by your local council. Because our products are made from plant residues, they will naturally decompose and add back to soil. Please check with your local council if in doubt.
